Panacos announces greater than 1 Log10 mean reduction in 300 mg bevirimat cohort

Panacos Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:PANC), a biotechnology company dedicated to developing the next generation of antiviral therapeutic products, today announced preliminary results from the 300 mg cohort of a Phase 2b study of bevirimat (PA-457) in patients failing HIV therapy due to drug resistance. In this cohort, eight patients received 300 mg of bevirimat solution once daily and two patients received placebo for 14 days on top of their failing background regimen.

Anthera announces positive Phase II clinical results from A-002 cardiovascular disease trial

Anthera Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a privately-held biopharmaceutical company, reported results of a Phase II clinical trial of its first compound, A- 002, for the treatment of cardiovascular disease. The trial results suggest that treatment with A- 002 resulted in significant reductions in blood levels of total cholesterol, Non-High Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (non HDL-C), and Low Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (LDL-C), known as “bad” cholesterol, coupled with equally meaningful reductions of C-Reactive Protein (CRP), a recognized marker of inflammation and cardiovascular risk. Decreases in these levels with A- 002 treatment were most significant among patients already on a background of statin therapy.

Dynogen announces the presentation of its positive Phase 1b trial results at the American College of Gastroenterology Annual Scientific Meeting (ACG) in Philadelphia, PA

Dynogen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced the presentation of its positive Phase 1b trial results for its DDP733 (pumosetrag) nocturnal gastroesophageal reflux disease (NGERD) program at the American College of Gastroenterology Annual Scientific Meeting (ACG) in Philadelphia, PA. The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study demonstrated proof-of- concept and overall safety and tolerability of DDP733 in reducing reflux events. The ACG abstract was authored by researchers from the Mayo Clinic and Dynogen. The DDP733 results were presented on October 14, 2007 during a poster session.

BrainCells, Taisho Pharmaceutical, sign licensing agreement for novel CNS program

BrainCells Inc. (BCI) and Taisho Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Taisho) today announced that BCI has in-licensed a novel development program from Taisho that BCI will develop for central nervous system (CNS) indications, including mood disorders. Taisho retains rights to the program in Japan and China, while BCI will have rights for the remainder of the world. Financial terms were not disclosed.

FlowCardia today announced it has raised $30 million in Series C financing

FlowCardia, Inc., a medical device company developing endovascular devices for coronary and peripheral chronic total occlusion (CTO) recanalization, today announced it has raised $30 million in Series C financing. Gilde Healthcare Partners led the financing, joined by new investors Life Sciences Partners, Hambrecht & Quist Capital Management LLC and New Science Ventures and existing investors Frazier Healthcare Ventures, JP Morgan Partners and Pappas Ventures. Rockport Venture Partners and Gold Hill Capital also participated in this round.
